We are thrilled to welcome two new team members to BLCK VC, Dorian McCorey and Muriel Foster! Dorian is joining us as our Community Manager and Muriel will be our Program Officer. Both are joining BLCK VC at a critical point in our growth and will help us scale our community, reach, and impact.
As Community Manager, Dorian will be leading initiatives across the organization, including spearheading our mentorship program, building our events strategy, and developing partnerships with aligned organizations. In addition, she will be working closely with our chapters, committees, and partners to empower, support, and engage the BLCK VC community.
Dorian is a graduate of Elon University with a Bachelor of Fine Arts (B.F.A.) in Music Theatre. A former professional artist, Dorian trained at The Governor’s School for the Arts. She signed to D.G.R.W. talent agency in New York City as a member of The Actor Equity Association. She led a state-wide economic development campaign focusing on entrepreneurship as the first Black Miss High Point within The Miss America Organization. This work led to consulting startups and government entities through The Kenan Institute of Private Enterprise. Currently, she is a venture finance scholar through the University of California, Berkeley School of Law, and The National Venture Capital Association. She has facilitated alumni engagement at Elon University and online communities within The Forté Foundation. She is ecstatic to apply her community development skills to support investors at BLCK VC.
As Program Officer, Muriel will be leading the planning and implementation of BLCK VC educational programs for aspiring and existing Black venture investors. She will scale our industry-leading training programs, such as Black Venture Institute, BLCK VC Scout Network, Breaking into Venture, and NYC Path Program.
Muriel’s passion for helping others began as a student employee at her alma mater, Oklahoma State University. There she found and led a clothing closet, a free service for students to acquire suits and professional clothing accessories for interviews and campus events. She then moved to Cape Town, South Africa where she was an international business consultant helping to develop ENPWR U, a directory that connects the community to nonprofit programming. She recently graduated from Texas Southern University with a Master’s in Public Administration and is excited to apply her nonprofit management skills in her new role as Program Officer at BLCK VC.
