We’re excited to announce the launch of BLCK VC’s Mentorship Network program, Cohort 2.
The BLCK VC Mentorship Network program is about more than just building connections and gaining knowledge in venture capital. It’s about empowering the next generation of Black investors to reach their full potential, break down barriers, and challenge the status quo in an industry that has historically been exclusive. Our goal is to create a community that values mentorship, growth, and teamwork, where mentees can learn from experienced professionals and build relationships that will last a lifetime. We firmly believe that by investing in the development of Black talent in venture capital, we can create a more equitable and just industry that benefits everyone.
In order to achieve the goal of empowering the next generation of Black investors and creating a more equitable industry, the BLCK VC Mentorship Network program takes a targeted approach to mentorship. We carefully pair early to mid-career venture investors who identify as Black/African American with mentors who have deep experience in the industry. By matching mentors and mentees based on investment stage, sector preference, location, and other key characteristics, we create an environment that fosters strong relationships and encourages professional growth. The 3-month program will run from June 26 to September 29, 2023, providing ample time for mentees and mentors to receive and give guidance and coaching.
The Mentorship Network program offers monthly group sessions to both mentees and mentors. Mentees will have the opportunity to learn crucial skills for a successful venture capital career, including brand building, negotiation techniques, and best practices. Mentors, on the other hand, will gain valuable skills such as relationship-building with portfolio companies, co-investors, and industry partners, talent management, team diversity and inclusivity, and scaling business operations for a venture firm.
To qualify for the Mentorship Network program, mentees must have less than 5 years of experience in venture capital and hold a full-time position at a VC firm, and mentors must have 5+ years of experience in venture capital and work full-time at a VC firm. Both mentors and mentees must be able to commit up to 2.5 hours per month and have a strong interest in giving and receiving coaching and guidance.
The Mentorship Network program will be accepting applications from Monday, April 17, 2023, until Friday, May 19, 2023, at 11:59 pm PST. Those selected to participate in the Mentorship Network program will be notified via email, and the program will begin with an orientation session on June 30, 2023. Mentor and mentee groups will meet on July 28, August 25, and September 29, 2023.
